Imagery for Open-World Spatial Problems

چکیده
In her paper ([4]), Janice Glasgow adresses many important advantages that imagery models can offer over sentential models such as predicate logic. In this response, we point out another important advantage of imagery with respect to the formulation of models. Consider the problem of reasoning about placing two-dimensional polygonal “blocks” in a space, illustrated in Figure 1. For purposes such as planning, knowledge about the blocks world is commonly formalized as rules which define the legal operations. Rules are based on symbolic features, for example, a rule may state that:

Recently, a large set of electroencephalography (EEG) data is being generated by several high-quality labs worldwide and is free to be used by all researchers in the world. On the other hand, many neuroscience researchers need these data to study different neural disorders for better diagnosis and evaluating the treatment. However, some format adaptation and pre-processing are necessary before ...

Over 50% of world‟s population presently resides in cities, and this number is expected to rise to ~70% by 2050. Increasing urbanization problems including population growth, urban sprawl, land use change, unemployment, and environmental degradation, have markedly impacted urban residents‟ Quality of Life (QOL). Therefore, urban sustainability and its measurement have gained increasing attentio...

Snow is a huge water resource in most parts of the world. Snow water equivalent supplies 1/3 of the water requirement for farming and irrigation throughout the world. Water content estimation of a snow-cover or estimation of snowmelt runoff is necessary for Hydrologists. Several snowmelt-forecasting models have been suggested, most of which require continuous monitoring of snow-cover. Today mo...

متن کاملA Real-time Traffic Congestion Estimation Approach from Video Imagery
This paper presents a novel approach to detect traffic congestion on roads in a natural open world scene observed from TV cameras placed on poles or buildings. In this system, three algorithms are proposed to estimate the road status. They are based on background subtraction, frame differencing and time-spatial image respectively. The experimental results on real road traffic congestion estimat...
